Mayor Bentkowski was first elected to city government in 1995 when at the age of 23, he was elected to City Council with nearly 75% of the vote. He graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in Political Science. He graduated in only three years while funding his entire education. He was admitted to the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at the age of 20 becoming one of the school's youngest ever students. After graduating from Law School, he passed his bar exam on the first try with a score high enough to qualify him for automatic admission to the DC bar.
He is a respected attorney and lobbyist covering the Greater Cleveland area and the State of Ohio. He has lobbied all levels of government including Congress. In November of 2003, he was elected Mayor with nearly 62% of the vote. In November, 2007, he was re-elected to a second term with a record-setting 82% of the vote. He has lived in Seven Hills since 1977 and is a graduate of Padua Franciscan High School in Parma, Ohio.
In 2006, Mayor Bentkowski launched a yearlong charity effort with local television to profile and promote local causes. The goal was to assist one charity a week for an entire year. This effort continues today and hundreds of charities have been profiled and assisted on the Mayor's Emmy nominated weekly television show, "Around Town". Whether it is a bowl-a-thon or a marathon - a wine tasting dinner or a golf outing - even a figure skating or synchronized swim - Mayor Bentkowski not only covers the event, but participates in it.
